Rasmuson Foundation Announces $7.6 Million in Grants, Investments
The Rasmuson Foundation in Anchorage has announced grants and investments totaling $7.6 million to nonprofit organizations and Native communities in Alaska.
The grants include an award of $57,000 to the Yakutat Tlingit Tribe for a twelve-foot totem pole that recognizes Rasmuson's connection to Yakutat and commemorates the foundation's sixtieth anniversary. The foundation also pledged up to $2 million in support of a campaign to advance a statewide conversation about the need for a sustainable fiscal strategy in Alaska. The campaign will provide information and resources to help Alaskans weigh responsible options for closing a $3 billion budget gap before the state’s financial reserves are depleted.
Additional grants include nearly $1.8 million over five years to the Alaska Community Foundation in support of the Pick.Click.Give online giving program; a $35,000 challenge grant to the Chilkat Valley Community Foundation, an affiliate of ACF, to grow the fund's permanently endowed assets; $750,000 to the Chilkat Indian Village in support of the Jilkaat Kwaan Cultural Heritage Center in Klukwan; $492,300 to Bean's Café to construct a prep kitchen for the Children's Lunchbox in Anchorage; and $475,000 to the Tanana Chiefs Conference to support the construction of a health clinic in a multipurpose building in Tanacross.
