Schwab Charitable, the San Francisco-based provider of donor-advised funds (DAFs), facilitated grants totaling more than $4.7 billion in 2022—a 7 percent increase from $4.4 billion 2021.

During 2022, Schwab Charitable DAF account holders awarded 995,000 grants in support of 117,000 charities and increased the number of grants to organizations recommended by the Center for Disaster Philanthropy by 33 percent compared to 2021. The organization also reported that unrestricted grants represented 71 percent of its total giving. In addition, 60 percent of contributions in 2022 were in the form of non-cash assets, including publicly traded securities, restricted stock, and private business interests.

“I’m so grateful to see how our donors continue to increase their giving, despite a tough year with economic uncertainty, natural disasters and global crises,” said Schwab Charitable president Sam Kang. “Our donors combine consistent support for their favorite causes with a willingness to open their hearts and wallets to new charitable organizations as unforeseen needs arise. Their generosity fuels our mission to increase the giving power of donors and accelerate the flow of dollars to charities and local communities.”
