Sean “Diddy” Combs invests $2 million in Jackson State University, EYL
Rapper and entertainment mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has invested a total of $2 million in advancing financial literacy among African Americans and in support of historically Black universities.
Through the Sean Combs Foundation, Combs committed $1 million to Jackson State University in support of the university’s football team. Announced last year during his Lifetime Achievement Award acceptance speech at the 2022 BET Awards, the gift details were finalized over the past year.
“As someone who went to Howard University and understands the invaluable experience of attending historically Black colleges and universities, it’s important that we all do our part to protect and preserve their legacy,” said Combs. “This contribution to Jackson State isn’t just about making a financial donation, it’s about giving back to a part of our culture that has changed countless lives and assuring HBCUs receive the support they deserve.”
Combs also announced a $1 million commitment to the Black-founded financial literacy platform Earn Your Leisure (EYL). The commitment establishes the platform’s investment fund and through Combs’ partnership with EYL hosts Rashad Bilal and Troy Milling. Profits made from the fund’s investments will be allocated across three Capital Preparatory Schools in New York and Connecticut that Combs has previously supported.
“This isn’t just about money, it’s about the convergence of vision, hustle, and a commitment to rewriting the rules,” said Bilal. “We’re not just opening doors, we’re building new doors, new rooms, new floors.”
