The One Roof Stadium Partnership—a public-private partnership that includes the One Roof Foundation, Seattle Kraken, and Climate Pledge Arena—has announced grants totaling $30 million to support the Memorial Stadium redevelopment project in Seattle, KING 5 reports.
Originally built in 1947 to honor local high school students who died in World War II, Memorial Stadium will be redeveloped into a 6,500-seat all-electric facility and include upgrades such as covered stands and a synthetic turf playing field. Recently announced funding includes $5 million from Seattle Kraken owner Samantha Holloway and Climate Pledge Arena developer and operator Oak View Group, $7.5 million from Norcliffe Foundation, $5 million from Steve and Connie Ballmer, $2.5 million from the Brotman family, $1 million from the Gates Foundation, $1 million from the Schultz Family Foundation, $2 million from Amazon, and $2 million from WaFd Bank.
The project also includes funds secured through a $66.5 million Seattle Public Schools (SPS) capital levy, as well as nearly $4 million in state funding and $40 million from the city. The partnership is overseeing the construction and operation of the new stadium on behalf of the City of Seattle and SPS.
“Replacing Memorial Stadium with a new state-of-the-art facility is a win for Seattle students, families, and our entire community,” said Seattle mayor Bruce Harrell in a news release. “This is our One Seattle approach in action—a public-private partnership between the City of Seattle, Seattle Public Schools, One Roof Foundation, and philanthropic partners working toward our shared goal: A new space that is more than just an athletic field—a place for education, engagement, and opportunity.”
