The Skoll Foundation has announced the recipients of the 2014 Skoll Awards for Social Entrepreneurship.

The annual awards provide unrestricted funding to nonprofit leaders and organizations that are driving large-scale social change and are poised to have an even greater impact on some of the world's most pressing problems. Each awardee will receive $1.25 million over three years to scale their work and will benefit from their participation in the global community of Skoll social entrepreneurs.

Representing seven organizations partnering with communities in thirty-five countries, this year's awardees are B Lab, which is building a legal structure for B Corporations and advancing public policies that enable companies to create financial, social, and environmental value for both its shareholders and society; Fundación Capital, which is working to expand access to financial services for the poor; Girls Not Brides, which aims to end the practice of child marriage in one generation; Global Witness, which investigates and exposes corruption around the extraction of natural resources in developing countries; Medic Mobile, which builds mobile applications for community health workers, caregivers, and patients designed to increase life-saving healthcare coverage; Slum Dwellers International, which organizes slum dwellers to take control of their futures, improve their living conditions, and gain recognition as equal partners with governments and international organizations in the creation of inclusive cities; and Water & Sanitation for the Urban Poor, which develops commercially viable models to bring water and sanitation to nearly two million people in urban slums in six countries.

"These are not lifetime achievement awards," said Skoll Foundation president and CEO Sally Osberg. "These are bets on the people who will create better futures for millions."
