South Florida Science Center and Aquarium receives $20 million gift
The South Florida Science Center and Aquarium in Palm Beach has announced a $20 million gift from Howard and Wendy Cox in support of a planned expansion.
The lead gift in a $45 million expansion campaign will rename the center the Cox Science Center and Aquarium. Construction on the center is expected to begin in early 2023, and when complete, the center will have an additional 130,000 total square feet of space for programming including science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) awareness and education and include a three-story science pavilion visible from I-95, new outdoor exhibition spaces, and one of Florida’s largest indoor aquariums.
Howard Cox currently serves as a special limited partner at Greylock Partners, a venture capital firm. Wendy Cox is the owner of WRB LLC Real Estate Investment Company, chair of the Bingham Family Foundation, and a member of the science center’s board.
“We are thrilled to continue the progress so many generous and visionary donors and visitors have made to get the science center to this pivotal point of growth,” said Wendy Cox. “The center has exhibited strong board leadership, staff, and friends to enable this confident launch.”
