St. John’s University receives $20 million from alumni couple
St. John’s University has announced a $20 million gift from Margaret La Rosa D’Angelo (’70Ed, ’22HON) and her husband, Peter P. D’Angelo (’78MBA, ’06HON), in support of a new Health Sciences Center on the university’s Queens campus.
The largest single gift in the history of the university includes $15 million toward construction of a 70,000-square-foot center and $5 million in support of the university’s most pressing needs. Slated to open in the fall of 2024, the center will be the permanent home of the university’s bachelor of science degree in nursing program. At the suggestion of the D’Angelos, and with the approval of the board, the center will be renamed to honor St. Vincent de Paul.
Longtime supporters of the university, Margaret D'Angelo is a member of the board and Peter D'Angelo is a chair emeritus. Their previous gifts to the university have supported an endowed scholarship for mathematics majors and established the Peter P. and Margaret A. D’Angelo Chair in the Humanities.
“St. John’s University holds a special place in our hearts,” said the couple in a joint statement. “We are excited about its direction, investment in the health sciences, and unwavering commitment to be a place that turns opportunity into outcomes for hard-working students who want to make a difference in the world.”
