Stanford Receives $100 Million From Alumnus
Stanford University has announced a $100 million gift from real estate developer and 1960 alumnus John Arrillaga.
Stanford officials have yet to decide how they will use the gift — the largest from an individual ever received by the university. A longtime supporter of the school, Arrillaga has funded the construction of several campus buildings, including the Arrillaga Family Recreation Center, the Arrillaga Family Sports Center, and the Frances C. Arrillaga Alumni Center, which is named in memory of his late wife.
The former Stanford basketball star and member of the university's Athletic Hall of Fame has provided substantial financial support to a number of other buildings on campus, including the Graduate Community Center and the recently renovated Red Barn complex, and was instrumental in the 2004 renovation of Maples Pavilion. He is also overseeing the renovation of Stanford Stadium, which is scheduled to reopen in September.
"Stanford is very fortunate to have loyal supporters like John Arrillaga," said Stanford president John Hennessy. "The extraordinary generosity of John's gift will be felt across a number of programs and departments and will provide important support to the university in the pursuit of its mission."
