Sue Ling Gin Foundation commits $21 million to Chicago CRED
The Sue Ling Gin Foundation in Chicago has announced a three-year, $21 million gift to Chicago CRED in support of its work to reduce gun violence.
The foundation is funded by the estate of the late Chicago entrepreneur Sue Gin, according to the Chicago Tribune. The gift will enable the organization to expand its reach beyond the South and West sides of the city to assist young people at risk of becoming involved with gun violence. The donation is just the second for the foundation, following a gift to WTTW in support of nine broadcasts focused on crime in Chicago.
“She was a major philanthropist and civic participant in Chicago,” Sue Ling Gin Foundation trustee Robert Hamada told the Tribune. “The mission that we wanted to focus on was to reduce gun violence in Chicago. If we could improve that, we could improve the image of Chicago across the country—and the world, for that matter.”
