Summa Health receives $10 million gift from Juve family

Summa Health in Akron, Ohio, has announced a $10 million gift from Northeast Ohio philanthropists Sharon and Richard Juve.

A $60 million behavioral health pavilion, currently under construction, will be named in honor of the family. When completed in 2023, the seven-story facility will include 60 beds as well as a renovated 14-bed detox unit. It will provide inpatient and outpatient care and offer a full spectrum of integrated behavioral health services, including programs to address mental health challenges and substance abuse disorder and provide treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder.

“One in four people struggles with behavioral health issues at some point in their lives,” said Joseph Varley, chair of psychiatry at Summa Health. “Thanks to [the Juves’] generosity, Summa Health will provide life-changing care to thousands of patients right here in our community.

“We…hope that our gift brings further attention and support for behavioral health issues,” said Rick Juve, chairman of Americhem, a chemical manufacturer. His wife, Sharon Juve, added, “We’re aware in today’s world that many families and family members are dealing with serious mental health issues. It’s comforting to know Summa is making a difference.”
