Texas Christian University Receives Gift to Endow Chair in Texas History

Texas Christian University in Fort Worth has received a $1.5 million gift from Fort Worth native and businesswoman Mary Ralph Lowe to endow a chair of Texas history. The Erma and Ralph Lowe Chair of Texas History, named in memory of Lowe's parents, is the first of its kind at a Texas college or university.

Lowe is the president of Houston-based Maralo LLC. Her father, Ralph, was a "wildcatter" who became one of the most respected members of the Texas oil and gas industry, while her mother, Erma, was a committed civic volunteer and philanthropist. Erma Lowe served on the TCU board of trustees and was an honorary trustee of the school for more than two decades.

"We are delighted that Mary Ralph has chosen TCU as the home of this wonderful tribute to her parents," said TCU Chancellor Michael R. Ferrari. "Because of the Lowe Chair, the highest caliber of teaching and scholarship in Texas history will always be a part of TCU and continue the legacy of Ralph and Erma Lowe."
