UNC-Wilmington Receives $10 Million for School of Computer Science

The University of North Carolina-Wilmington has announced a $10 million gift from alumnus David Congdon ('78), and his wife, Helen, in support of its Cameron School of Business.

The largest gift in the university's history will establish the David S. Congdon School of Supply Chain, Business Analytics, and Information Systems and support those programs within the business school. The gift also will support scholarships and professorships, research, corporate sponsorships, technology and equipment upgrades, and capital improvements to the Computer Information Systems Building, which will be renamed David S. Congdon Hall.

A key aspect of the university's current strategic plan is ensuring that students are employed within six months of their graduation. To that end, the Congdon School will focus on building the technical, analytical, and interpersonal skills that students need to become leaders in their fields.

"The Congdons' transformational investment will provide an opportunity to increase access to high-achieving students, recruit and retain world-class faculty, and invest in state-of-the-art technology," said Cameron School dean Robert Burrus. "This investment will help spark the careers of students who plan to work in industries that are rapidly growing and that pay high starting salaries."
