UNHCR announces $200 million in private-sector support for Ukraine

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency has announced funding totaling more than $200 million from companies, foundations, and philanthropists in support of the agency’s Ukraine emergency response.

Private-sector contributions have enabled UNHCR to quickly respond to the crisis, including airlift and truck convoys of assistance both to refugees and displaced people inside Ukraine, emergency cash assistance, and services such as psychosocial support and targeted care to the most vulnerable. UNHCR issued an appeal to raise $510 million to provide initial emergency assistance to those displaced inside the country and for refugees across the region.

The commitments include €20 million ($22.03 million) from the IKEA Foundation. Additional donors include XTX Markets, Fast Retailing, the Akelius Foundation, BNP Paribas Foundation, Google.org, Volkswagen, Latter-day Saint Charities, Liberty Mutual Insurance, TikTok, Generali, the Foundation at Sanofi, Mazda Motor Corporation, Amplifon, Deloitte, Z Zurich Foundation, Bain & Company, Cisco, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, NTT, Restaurant Brands International, H&M Group, SAP, Toyota Motor Corporation, Adidas, Roschier, and the Jones Day Foundation.

“I want to thank the companies, foundations, and philanthropists from around the world for the kindness and generosity they have shown in helping the people fleeing the war in Ukraine,” said UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi. “Millions are in desperate need of urgent assistance. As the crisis deepens, I call on the private sector to continue its support.”
