University of Kansas Receives $25 Million Anonymous Pledge
The University of Kansas in Lawrence has announced a $25 million pledge from an alumnus who wishes to remain anonymous.
Of the total, $20 million will benefit the KU Alumni Association's outreach programs, which include social events and programming for alumni as well as efforts to recruit new students to the school. The remaining $5 million will be split between scholarships and the Greater KU Fund, which supports the university's greatest needs. Committed through the donor's estate plan, the largest gift to date to the KU Alumni Association was made through the KU Endowment and will count toward the university's campaign to raise $1.2 billion by 2016.
According to the university, the donor, a scholarship recipient as an undergrad, said he appreciated the education he received at KU and felt it was important to give back.
"This generous donor takes a very long-term and high-level view of what drives the success of the University of Kansas by making a commitment to further engage and mobilize KU’s greatest strength — its graduates," said KU Alumni Association president Kevin Corbett. "The storied success of KU has always been dependent on graduates who have been generous, and who have lent their knowledge and talents to improve the value of the KU degree. This gift will ensure that this tradition will continue in the years to come for the university."
