The University of Louisville has announced a $25 million gift from alumnus and former board president Owsley Brown Frazier to help advance the university's academic, research, and athletic programs.

The largest individual gift in university history will be applied to its $1 billion capital campaign, Charting Our Course: a Campaign for Kentucky's Premier Metropolitan Research University, which Frazier co-chairs. To date, the university has raised $582 million through the campaign.

Frazier, who received degrees in law and business administration and an honorary doctorate from the university, is the great-grandson of George Garvin Brown, founder of the Brown-Forman Corporation, one of the world's largest wine and spirit companies. With this latest gift, Frazier and his daughters have pledged or donated more than $40 million to the school.

"I'm a proud graduate of UofL and I've seen how its academic and research mission has flourished under president Jim Ramsey," said Frazier. "I hope my gift will further that mission and spur others to do the same."
