University of Pittsburgh Receives $20 Million for Vascular Institute
The University of Pittsburgh has announced commitments totaling $20 million from the Institute for Transfusion Medicine (ITxM) in support of research and recruitment efforts at its Vascular Medicine Institute.
Awarded through ITxM's Blood Science Foundation, the grants include $15 million over ten years for the institute's research programs and $5 million to establish the Institute for Transfusion Medicine Research Endowment. The endowment fund will help bolster the institute's recruitment efforts and support of investigators in the fields of vascular biology, red cell and platelet biology, and hemostasis and thrombosis research.
"We are proud to celebrate this remarkable partnership and grateful that these organizations — working together — have enabled the university to take some bold steps in the past years to advance our research in vascular medicine and bring a new level of care to the people of our region and beyond," said University of Pittsburgh chancellor Patrick Gallagher. "This is an extraordinary gift that will be a springboard to draw in other funding from the National Institutes of Health and other national organizations."
