University of Virginia Awarded $20 Million for School of Architecture
The University of Virginia has announced a $20 million bequest from a donor who wishes to remain anonymous in support of the Department of Architectural History in the School of Architecture.
Once realized, the single largest gift ever to the school will create three endowed funds in support of an international travel program, professorships in architectural history — one with a focus on European studies and another centered on Asian studies — and fellowships for PhD and graduate students. Established in 1919, the UVA School of Architecture enrolls more than six hundred students and offers undergraduate degrees, four master's degree programs, and a PhD in the Constructed Environment.
"As the School of Architecture prepares to celebrate its one hundredth anniversary, I want to thank these donors for helping us make the next hundred years even better," said UVA president Jim Ryan. "This gift will build bridges between UVA and other countries, help unlock discoveries in architectural history, and make it easier for more talented students to study here. On behalf of everyone who will benefit from this gift, I am extremely grateful."
