University of Wisconsin Receives $15 Million to Build Bio-Tech Research Complex

The University of Wisconsin-Madison has announced a $15 million grant from the Madison-based Oscar Rennebohm Foundation to support the construction of a research complex, the Associated Press reports.

Part of a university initiative to create a top-ranked facility for biomedical and technology research, the new $133.9 million Interdisciplinary Research Complex will replace outdated research facilities. Researchers affiliated with the new center will study cancer, imaging science, cardiovascular medicine, neuroscience, stem cells, and regenerative medicine. The project is being funded by private gifts, $18 million in grants from the National Institutes of Health, and $23.4 million in state funds.

"When the IRC is completed, it will be the home of lifesaving, life-enhancing research — a tribute to the Rennebohm name, and a source of pride to the citizens of Wisconsin," said Wisconsin governor Jim Doyle.
