V Foundation Raises Record $9.2 Million for Cancer Research
The V Foundation for Cancer Research has announced that it raised a record $9.2 million for cancer research during its fifteenth annual V Foundation Wine Celebration.
The funds raised include nearly $1.2 million in "fund-a-need" donations honoring Good Morning America co-host and cancer survivor Robin Roberts, who in 2012 was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a rare blood disorder, shortly after she had successfully fought breast cancer. In addition to a gala dinner and wine tastings, the event, which was hosted by Duke University men's basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski, included a cancer research symposium at which prominent physicians and scientists presented the most recent advances in cancer research.
"After fifteen years, the shine is brighter than ever," V Foundation CEO Susan Braun said of the annual event, which is held in Napa Valley. "Each vintner, each sponsor, each participant — all come together to make a difference, and this year was a resounding success."
