The Vancouver Art Gallery in British Columbia has announced a gift of 122 artworks from collectors Brigitte and Henning Freybe.

Valued at C$10 million ($6 million), the collection includes pieces by important European and North American artists working in the last 50 years—many rarely shown in Vancouver—including Carl Andre, Nairy Baghramian, and Christian Boltanski. In recognition of the gift, the gallery will organize a showcase of the collection.

“The Freybe collection is diverse and wide-ranging—materially, geographically, and conceptually—and at its core, it honors the creativity and knowledge that artists produce,” said Vancouver Art Gallery CEO and executive director Anthony Kiendl. “This acquisition will reshape the gallery’s holdings of local and international art and add significant works by major figures from the contemporary art world.”
