Villanova University Receives $6 Million for Scholarships
Villanova University has received a $6 million gift from former Fidelity Investments president James C. Curvey for scholarships and fellowships for students from five high schools in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia Business Journal reports.
The gift builds on a scholarship program that Curvey, a 1957 Villanova alumnus, established in 1999 and expanded in 2002 to provide financial assistance to a Villanova student from Curvey's hometown of Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania, every year. A portion of his most recent gift will enable the school to provide scholarships to four students annually, while the rest, $2 million, will be used to fund the Curvey Fellowship Program to provide financial support for a focused period of independent study by students in the scholarship program.
Curvey, vice chairman of Villanova's current $300 million capital campaign, began his career at Fidelity in 1982. In 1987, he started Fidelity Capital and served as its president until 1997, when he was named president and chief operating officer of Fidelity Investments.
