Walton Family Foundation Awards $1 Million to NorthWest Arkansas Community College

NorthWest Arkansas Community College in Bentonville has received a $1 million gift from the Walton Family Foundation in honor of Dick Trammel, a founding trustee of the college, the Bentonville County Daily Record reports.

The gift will be used to provide furnishings, technology, and enhancements to the college's new student center, which is expected to open this summer.

Trammel, who has served on the NWACC board of trustees since it was established in 1989, recently resigned to accept Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee's appointment to the state's Higher Education Coordinating Board. "I was honored and flattered to be asked," Trammel said of his new post. Serving on the coordinating board, he added, will give him an opportunity to stress the importance of two-year colleges in higher education.
