WMG/BFF Social Justice Fund awards $1.4 million for youth organizing
The Warner Music Group/Blavatnik Family Foundation Social Justice Fund (WMG/BFF SJF) has announced grants totaling $1.4 million in support of youth-led social justice efforts.
As part of the fund’s inaugural youth-led cohort, grants were awarded to seven organizations working in the areas of racial justice, LGBTQ+ rights, reproductive justice, and criminal justice reform. The recipients are led by people from historically marginalized communities—86 percent led by women of color—and include the Children’s Rights Innovation Fund (CRIF), which assists activists across Nigeria, Kenya, and the Caribbean working to make change in their communities and build a stronger global children’s rights movement; SPARK to expand its programming and the FYRE Camp, which provides leadership development to young LGBTQ+ organizers of color, as well as for reproductive justice organizing and advocacy; and URGE, the only youth-led national reproductive justice organization in the United States.
“The youth organizing field has been largely under-resourced for decades despite remarkable growth and development catalyzed by youth organizers,” said WMG/BFF SJF executive director Lorelei Williams. “Young people have historically been at the forefront of dynamic movements to reimagine our democracy, country, and world and build the power of Black and marginalized communities. As our global community continues to navigate the convergence of social, political, and health crises, investing in these organizations is an opportunity to elevate young voices leading change, holistically support the longevity of their work, and move us closer to dismantling systemic injustices.”
