Wolfson Foundation announces grants totaling $23 million

The Wolfson Foundation in London has announced grants totaling more than £17 million ($23.4 million) in its latest round of funding.

Recipients include the University of Birmingham, which was awarded £1.5 million ($2 million) to refurbish a building that will house its Institute for Mental Health and create new opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration between researchers spanning psychology, psychiatry, philosophy, health economics, epidemiology, geography, neuroscience, public health, sport and exercise science, and social policy. Loughborough University will receive £500,000 ($687,862) in support of a National Engineered Slope Simulator, a facility for simulating various climate conditions and replicating landslides.

Additional recipients include the Royal College of Music, which was awarded £200,000 ($275,145) for a technical fit-out of performance and recording studios in their new building; Liverpool City Council's St George's Hall, which will receive £50,000 ($68,786) for an imaginative heritage project which will re-create parts of the Hall digitally; Belgrade Theatre, which was awarded £50,000 ($68,786) for a new performance and education venue; and the Leuchie House, which will receive £48,000 ($66,034) in support of a space for people with neurological conditions from across Scotland to be assessed and to trial assistive technology.
