Yeshiva University receives $3 million from Eisenberg family
Yeshiva University in New York City has announced a $3 million gift from the Eisenberg Family Foundation to expand the writing center at Stern College for Women.
The gift from the foundation, whose directors include siblings Reva Hirsch, Larry Eisenberg (’75), and Richard Eisenberg (’77), will fund current programs and services and help relocate the writing center to facilities adjacent to the Shevet Glaubach Center for Career Strategy and Professional Development. In addition to providing students with one-on-one tutoring in writing skills, the center will now provide career-related services including help writing cover letters and personal statements for job applications and graduate school.
In recognition of the gift, the writing center will be renamed for the Eisenbergs’ parents, Lea and Leon (’47) Eisenberg, who died in 2019 and 2018, respectively. The couple were longtime supporters of the university and Stern College in particular, where Lea Eisenberg served as chair of the board of overseers.
“[Lea Eisenberg’s] wisdom helped guide me in my thinking, and her partnership with her beloved husband, Leon, inspired me,” said Yeshiva University undergraduate faculty of arts and sciences dean Karen Bacon. “I know how much the importance of words, well intentioned and crafted, mattered to Lea. This writing center will be a true tribute to the Eisenberg name.”
