Resource Foundation
Mission:
To promote effective philanthropy in Latin America and the Caribbean that will empower the disadvantaged to improve their lives.
About the Organization:
Founded in 1987 by Loren Finnell, the Resource Foundation helps corporations, individuals, and foundations to identify, vet, and support reputable and effective grassroots organizations. Through its network of 41 affiliated organizations in 16 countries and nearly 200 associated organizations in 27 countries, the foundation supports programs throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.
Current Programs:
The Resource Foundation partners with community-based nonprofit organizations that implement programs across ten development areas: affordable housing, capacity building, cultural programs, disaster relief, education and job-skills training, environmental concerns, health care and HIV/AIDS, microenterprise, potable water and sanitation, and sustainable agriculture. Each partnering organization works hand-in-hand with community members who provide "sweat equity" — from building their own homes to paying back microenterprise loans to offering at least nominal payments for their health care — and receives capacity building assistance from the foundation. In addition, the foundation provides giving services that help donors identify projects and organizations in the areas they want to support and then channels their donations while meeting all legal and fiscal requirements.
Web Site:
The Resource Foundation Web site includes a series of case studies, featured projects, success stories, and resources for donors interested in supporting Latin American and Caribbean nonprofits.
Funding:
The Resource Foundation receives funding from foundations, corporations, and individuals.
