Action Center to End World Hunger

Action Center to End World Hunger

Mission:
To identify and highlight the underlying causes of poverty and hunger and to generate the public will necessary to end hunger in our lifetimes.

Background:
In October 2008, international relief and development organization Mercy Corps opened the Action Center to End World Hunger in lower Manhattan as a platform for educating the general public about world hunger and promoting hunger activism. The center offers visitors a range of interactive multimedia experiences to show them how hunger is being addressed in different parts of the world and offers workshops for visiting school groups. A second action center is scheduled to open next month in Mercy Corps' new global headquarters building in Portland, Oregon.

Outstanding Web Features:
The Action Center to End World Hunger site offers a selection of the multimedia content on view at the physical center, including videos that demonstrate how residents of various countries and aid agencies are working together to address hunger challenges, plus case studies on issues that affect hunger in different regions of the world, including climate change in Niger and conflict in Afghanistan. The site also features a section dedicated to helping visitors find ways to get involved searchable by time commitment, topic, and country.
