Alliance for Health Reform
Mission:
To provide an unbiased source of information to health-policy leaders so they can understand the roots of the nation's healthcare problems and the trade-offs posed by competing proposals for change.
Background:
Since 1991, the Alliance has organized more than two hundred forums in Washington and around the nation, each presenting a balanced menu of expert views. The organization has briefed reporters, editorial writers, and producers in newsrooms across the country on health-policy debates in Washington and how they affect local citizens. The Alliance has published three sourcebooks for journalists — one focusing on Medicare & Medicaid, the second on managed care, and a third on health issues in Campaign 2000 and beyond. In addition, it produces issue briefs regularly on current topics such such as Prescription Drugs: A Primer for Policymakers and Resolving Health Plan Disputes: The Issue and Challenges.
Outstanding Feature:
The Alliance's media resource service assists journalists nationwide to develop articles and broadcasts on healthcare issues, and maintains a source list of hundreds of healthcare experts. In addition, the organizations Covering Health Issues: A Sourcebook for Journalists provides the media with nonpartisan background information on a wide range of health-coverage-related issues. The Sourcebook is also available in Spanish.
