Alliance for Justice

Alliance for Justice

Mission:
To advance the cause of justice for all Americans, strengthen the public interest community's ability to influence public policy, and foster the next generation of advocates. The Alliance for Justice is a national association of nearly sixty environmental, civil rights, mental health, women's, children's, and consumer advocacy organizations.

Background:
Founded by Nan Aron in 1979, the Alliance believes that government policies should take into account the thoughts and opinions of the public, as well as the fundamental human rights and civil liberties that have been interpreted by fair and independent courts. Nonprofits and philanthropic groups that address social problems and advance social justice are uniquely positioned to participate in public policy making on behalf of citizens. The Alliance helps these organizations develop and strengthen their voices to be more effective in the public arena.

Outstanding Feature:
In addition to the standard sections of the Alliance Web site — About AFJ, Public Policy, Research and Publications, Events, News and Press, and Membership, the site is divided into four main areas: Nonprofit Advocacy, Foundation Advocacy, Student Advocacy, and Judicial Selection. Each area provides an overview of the Alliance's work, relevant workshops and events, and current news stories. Visitors can also sign up to receive e-mail updates for each of those advocacy efforts.
