To help children and their families engage in energy saving activities in their daily lives.

Background:
Funded in part by the Noyce Foundation, Bill Nye's Climate Lab was launched by the Chabot Space and Science Center in 2010 to coincide with the opening of a permanent exhibition at the center. Designed in partnership with Proximity Lab, the site offers a range of actions that children and their families can take to reduce their energy consumption.

Outstanding Web Features:
The site features games and activities related to climate change and the environment, including Vampire Hunt, where users learn which home electronics "suck" energy when you wouldn't expect it and how to "vanquish" them; Transit Tracker, which teaches users how to track their personal and family travel habits and cut down on their carbon dioxide emissions; a Virtual Garden where users can learn about the importance of green space in sustainable communities; and Climate Cards, where users can design and send a postcard advocating for changes in energy policy to friends and family. Registered site users can save points earned after completing an activity and compare their score with those of other users; Chabot Space and Science Center visitors earn extra points. The site also lists resources for visitors who want to learn more about the topics discussed.
