Causecast
Mission:
To help individuals interested in various causes connect with leaders, nonprofits, and other citizens.
Background:
Launched in September 2008, Causecast utilizes aspects of social networking, popular entertainment, and technology to educate individuals about social causes and help them get involved with the causes and organizations that interest them most. Causecast also partners with other nonprofits to host events, such as a recent screening of a film about Ugandan child soldiers that was co-hosted by Invisible Children.
Outstanding Web Features:
Once registered, visitors to the Causecast Web site can create a profile containing information on how much each user has donated and raised, a list of supported organizations and individuals, photos, blog posts, and biographical information. Users can browse videos; learn about and donate to dozens of nonprofits; explore what celebrities, politicians, and artists are doing to encourage social change; and browse cause categories such as human rights, youth, and the arts. Causecast also maintains a frequently updated blog and Twitter stream.
