Circle of Blue
Mission:
To connect humanity to the global freshwater crisis.
Background:
Founded in 2002 as a project of the Pacific Institute, a nonpartisan water policy think tank, Circle of Blue is an international network of journalists, scholars, and citizens working to inspire and inform decision-making about the diminishing global supply of fresh, clean water.
Outstanding Web Features:
The Circle of Blue Web site offers stories reported from around the world and allows registered users to suggest story ideas of their own. The folks behind the site plan to eventually create a network of compelling stories utilizing photography, videography, text, and electronic communications. The project's pilot story, Divining Destiny, focuses on life in the increasingly parched Tehuacn Valley of Mexico. The site also features two blogs, Water Stories and Waterborne.
