Conservation International

Mission:
To conserve global biodiversity and demonstrate that human societies can live harmoniously with nature.

Background:
Conservation International was founded in 1987 to help direct the conservation movement away from a focus on preserving natural areas as untouched relics of the past and toward a focus on helping people and nature co-exist harmoniously. Today, the organization works to save species in the most biologically diverse regions of the world, conserve landscapes and seascapes, ensure the responsible and effective use of natural resources, and develop innovative methods to address issues such as climate change, human well-being, and corporate best practices.

Outstanding Web Features:
The Conservation International Web site features an interactive map of conservation issues around the world, a carbon calculator, an eco-footprint quiz, and a selection of e-cards that can be sent to friends. The site also offers an archive of articles, videos, and photos, as well as downloadable wallpapers and screensavers for Mac and PC. In addition, all features and media on the site can be sorted by topic (e.g., science, oceans, and climate).
