Council on Foundations

Council on Foundations

Mission:
The Council on Foundations is a membership organization that serves the public good by promoting and enhancing responsible and effective philanthropy.

Background:
Since 1949, the Council on Foundations has helped foundation staff, trustees, and board members in their grantmaking activities. The organization addresses important issues in philanthropy and the challenges that face foundations and corporate funders through one-to-one technical assistance, research, publications, conferences, workshops, and legal services.

Outstanding Feature:
The new Council on Foundations Web site offers a personal touch. Council members and non-members alike can set up their own My Council section to maintain relationships with the organization and its member groups and manage subscriptions to various newsletters, publications, and online communities. To register for My Council, Web users provide their contact information and an inventory of their interests in philanthropy; the Council on Foundations then uses the information to make specific recommendations of online resources, organizations, and conferences. The new site also offers a notebook feature that allows users to bookmark links and save them on a page in their My Council section.
