GlobalGiving
Mission:
To build an efficient marketplace that can connect people who have community and world-changing ideas with people who can support them.
Background:
In 1997, Mari Kuraishi and Dennis Whittle created a global marketplace for World Bank's requests for proposals that would help grantees combat poverty. After the success of World Bank's Development Marketplace, Mari and Dennis left the company to launch GlobalGiving.
Outstanding Web Features:
The GlobalGiving site offers a video to teach new users 'how it works'; a blog, GlobalGoodness, that allows subscriptions via RSS feed; feeds for new projects and progress reports of current projects; and a gifts and registries center where subscribers can give certificates and gifts for birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries. The recently launched GlobalGiving Green site is devoted entirely to projects that address climate change and poverty.
