I Do Foundation, Inc.

Mission:
To help engaged couples bring a charitable focus to their marriage. The I Do Foundation's goal is to share the joy and wealth of wedding celebrations with effective nonprofit organizations and to provide a variety of donation options and wedding services to help engaged couples make charitable giving a significant part of their celebration.

Purpose of Site:
The I Do Foundation Web site allows couples to register for wedding gifts with several retail stores, a travel agency, and an invitation printer that will donate a portion of the sales to charity. Couples can also register for donations to specific organizations and receive notification of the guests who give in their honor.

Background:
Peter Murray and Bethany Robertson, who met at a community economic-development conference, were discussing the problem of finding wedding gifts for friends who already had everything when they came up with the idea for the I Do Foundation. The two activists chased their vision and launched the foundation's Web site earlier this year.

Home Page:
In addition to a brief overview of how the I Do Foundation works, the toolbar on the home page features links for Couples and Guests, as well as links to information about the foundation's partnerships with Nonprofits and Stores. The final link in the toolbar leads to the About Us section of the site. Couples using the site can also link to their own personal wedding sites from the home page.

Outstanding Feature:
To register with the I Do Foundation, couples fill out a brief questionnaire and designate their preferred charities or program areas. The foundation recommends its partner nonprofits, which include Action Against Hunger, Human Rights Watch, and the National Center for Victims of Crime, but couples also have the option of choosing their own charities. They can also elect to donate to one of the foundation's program areas: children, youth, and families; community development; education; environment; health; and social justice.

For couples that choose to register with the foundation's retail partners, which include Nordstrom, Amazon.com, MarthaStewart.com, and Linens 'n Things, their guests can purchase gifts online and the retailers will donate up to 10 percent to the designated charity or program area. Users who don't wish to register with the foundation's partners can simply request that their guests make charitable donations through the I Do Foundation Web site. Couples can also raise donations by using Carlson Wagonlit Travel for their honeymoon and guest hotel travel packages.

Honorable Mention:
Couples create a personal wedding Web page to make their registry available to guests, but the page can also be used to provide wedding information to guests. Users can post directions to the ceremony and reception, show pictures, and share stories about the wedding.
