Interactive Smart Chart
Mission:
To help nonprofits make smart communications choices.
Background:
Interactive Smart Chart is based on Spitfire Strategies Smart Chart 2.0, a planning tool that aids nonprofits in developing high-impact communications strategies. Spitfire Strategies was founded in 2002 by Kristen Grimm, who worked in the public interest communications field for more than twelve years and saw a need for a more holistic approach to crafting an organization's communications vision, strategy, and tactics.
Outstanding Web Feature:
A free registration requiring an e-mail address and password accesses the program, which first asks visitors to identify a goal and then work through each subsequent decision — including target audience, message, and tactics — to build a complete strategic communications plan. Helpful tips and examples are provided throughout; if you get stuck coming up with a precise goal, for instance, click on the tip sheet in the goal section to learn three easy steps to identifying an achievable goal. You may stop anywhere during the process, save your answers, and finish later. This allows maximum flexibility and time to reflect on your choices and get input from staff, board members, or others. Once the process is complete, you can download, save, or print out your planning decisions for future implementation.
