Smart Chart 2.0
Mission:
To help nonprofits make smart communications choices.
Background:
The interactive Smart Chart 2.0 is the online version of the Smart Chart 2.0 (17 pages, PDF), a planning tool created by Spitfire Strategies to help nonprofits clarify their communications goals and develop high-impact strategies to achieve them. The Smart Chart is designed for nonprofits anywhere along the communications spectrum, whether they are just starting the planning process, evaluating a campaign already in progress, or reviewing a completed effort.
Outstanding Web Features:
After registering for free, users work their way through the Smart Chart's six sections: program decisions; context, which consists of an internal scan of assets and drawbacks, and an external scan of outside factors that could affect a communications campaign; strategic choices regarding audience, message, and messenger; communications objectives; tactics; and program evaluation. The sections must be completed in order because each decision is based on a previous one. Each section includes guidelines and self-evaluation questions designed to produce stronger, more strategic decisions, and a tool bar on each page indicates where the user is in the process. Answers may be saved and revisited at any time, allowing for input from staff, board members, and others. The process ends with a final review and a completed, professional-looking chart and evaluation plan ready for downloading.
