International Journalists' Network
Mission:
To help connect journalists with the opportunities and information they need to better themselves and raise journalism standards in their countries.
Background:
The International Journalists' Network (IJNet), revamped and relaunched this month by its publisher, the International Center for Journalists, is an online service for journalists, media managers, media-assistance professionals, journalism trainers and educators, and anyone else with an interest in news media. Here they can peruse information from around the world and network with one another. The site is funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the Open Society Institute, and the National Endowment for Democracy.
Web Site:
Dense but navigable, the IJNet Web site provides tabs at the top of each page to give users the option of reading in English, Spanish, Portuguese, or Arabic; and a world map on the home page and other sections of the site allows the quick choice of a country or region. IJNet features include news and events, by region, country, category, key word, and date; media laws, by subject, country, and key word; and codes of ethics, by country. The site also provides information on fellowships and awards, media outlets, and training materials; links to discussion groups; and a free subscription to the IJNet e-newsletter and a link to the site's editor for news or training-event contributions.
