JustGive.org
Mission: To increase charitable giving by connecting people with the charities and causes they care most about.
Background:
Kendall Webb, a 1986 Harvard graduate and former corporate professional with Goldman Sachs & Co., the World Bank, and others, founded JustGive.org in 2000. While at Harvard, she helped launch WorldTeach, which is still in existence. JustGive has a core staff of eight, with support from more than one hundred volunteers nationwide. Visitors to the site can make a contribution to any of the more than one million U.S. nonprofits listed; the organization keeps 3 percent of every donation to cover processing and credit card fees. Each donor is given a personal account, accessible by e-mail and password, that provides giving history by year.
Outstanding Web Features:
Visitors to the JustGive site can buy a charity gift certificate, register for their wedding, create a charity wish list, or make a gift donation. Charities are accessible via an advanced search or the JustGive Guide. The site provides tax-deduction information, frequently asked questions by donors, a tool for calculating how much to give, nonprofits' frequently asked questions about being listed with JustGive, charity gift certificates, inspiring stories, volunteering tips, and volunteer opportunities. The site also contains JustGive's own wish list and an interview with founder Kendall Webb.
