Background:
The Migration Information Source is an online resource on global migration and a project of the Migration Policy Institute. Working with a team of international correspondents, scholars in the migration and refugee fields, and an advisory board, the staff chronicle global migration movements, provide perspectives on current migration debates, and present tools and data from global organizations and governments in ways that are accessible to researchers, policy makers, journalists, and other opinion shapers. The Web site is funded by the J.M. Kaplan Fund, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and the Carnegie Corporation of New York.

Outstanding Web Feature:
The interactive Global Data Center provides easy access to migration data. To access the information, visitors choose a country, then check the types of data they desire, such as the country's population size and composition; the number of foreign-born arrivals by year, age, sex, or country of birth; the number of asylum applications by year and nationality; or the acquisition of citizenship. Data Tools include historical immigration trends in the United States, state-by-state information on the foreign-born in the United States, asylum seekers around the world, comparative charts and tables, and country-specific charts and tables. The Web site also supplies country profiles, spotlights diverse topics including foreign-born in the military, specific immigrant groups in the United States, and foreign and exchange students; provides data and insights into such topics as forced migration and the global dimensions of female migration; and links to other data resources.
