Museum of Science and Industry

Museum of Science and Industry

Mission:
To inspire and motivate children to reach their full potential in science, technology, medicine, and engineering.

Background:
Established in 1933, the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago is one of the largest science museums in the world, housing more than 35,000 artifacts across nearly fourteen acres of hands-on exhibits designed to spark scientific inquiry. Housed in the only remaining building from the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, the museum offers a wide range of permanent exhibits, including the only German U-boat in the United States and "The Great Train Story," as well as a number of temporary exhibits and other educational programs.

Outstanding Web Features:
The Museum of Science and Industry site offers a variety of science-related content for children and adults, including videos on topics such as the relocation of the U-505 submarine; podcasts featuring experts on stormchasing, the Hubble Space Telescope, and other topics; games; and information about hands-on activities like cooking food in the sun, making recycled paper, and constructing a worm farm.
