Nonprofit Genie
Mission: To provide information and resources for the nonprofit community.
Background:
The idea for Nonprofit Genie grew out of C-MAP, the California Management Assistance Partnership, as a free service to help nonprofit staff and board members manage more successfully. C-MAP, established in 1996 as a consortium of fourteen regional nonprofit-support organizations , provides training and technical assistance to local nonprofits, and encourages collaboration and sharing of information among its partners so they can serve their local communities more effectively. One of the C-MAP partners, San Francisco-based CompassPoint Nonprofit Services, maintains the Nonprofit Genie Web site and is responsible for the material on it. The site is funded primarily by the California Endowment and the California Wellness, James Irvine, and David and Lucile Packard foundations.
Outstanding Web Features:
The Nonprofit Genie homepage features a weekly Hot Topic and Cool Site, and frequently asked questions on everything from board development and fundraising to strategic planning and volunteer management. The site also contains features related to nonprofits, including reports, interviews, and opinion pieces; Internet resources; and the e-newsletter Board Caf, exclusively for members of nonprofit boards.
