Not for Sale

Not for Sale

Mission:
To equip and mobilize "smart activists" to deploy innovative solutions that re-abolish slavery in their own backyards and across the globe.

Background:
University of San Francisco business professor David Batstone founded Not for Sale after he discovered one of his favorite Indian restaurants in the Bay Area had been trafficking women from India to perform menial tasks. After a year of traveling and conducting field research for a book he was writing on the subject, Batstone launched Not for Sale to raise awareness of slavery and enable a new generation of abolitionists to take action to end ir around the world.

Outstanding Web Features:
The Not for Sale site features a SlaveryMap, which visitors to the site can use to research instances of human trafficking and add new information they discover in newspaper articles and other resources. The map is designed to show people that slavery still exists and occurs in unexpected places and neighborhoods. The Not for Sale Web site also features dedicated portals for students, people of faith, consumers, artists, and other groups; information on the organization's global initiatives; an introduction to and framework for discussion of modern-day slavery; a list of ten "Rules for Smart Activists"; other resources, including a Student Abolitionist Movement Handbook; videos; a calendar of events; and recent news and announcements.
