Andy Warhol Foundation raises $3 million from sales initiative
The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts has raised $3 million from the sale of more than 750 original Warhol works while working with eBay for Charity.
With an average price of $3,787, the Warhol pieces, such as printed material, vintage posters, and books originating from the artist’s estate, are accessible to collectors of all budgets. Proceeds from the sales support the foundation’s goal of uplifting a diverse range of artistic practices. Most recently, the foundation pledged more than $4 million in grants to 48 visual arts organizations.
To commemorate reaching the $3 million milestone, the foundation will present a curated online eBay auction—its largest to date—entitled Andy Warhol: Social Network, celebrating the people who were part of the artist’s rotating social circle.
“Warhol remains one of the most influential artists not only through the enduring impact of his life and work but also through the philanthropy of the foundation he established,” said Michael Dayton Hermann, the foundation’s director of licensing, marketing, and sales. “This initiative has proven demand from global collectors of all budgets to purchase with ease and with purpose by utilizing a democratic platform while directly supporting the advancement of the visual arts.”
