ONE: The Campaign to Make Poverty History
Mission:
To raise public awareness about the issues of global poverty, hunger, and disease and work to fight such problems in developing countries.
Background:
ONE has gained support from more than 2.4 million Americans and more than a hundred of the country's most respected nonprofit, advocacy, and humanitarian organizations. ONE calls on national leaders to do more to fight AIDS and extreme poverty and believes that increasing the amount of the U.S. budget allocated to providing basic needs such as health, education, clean water, and food would transform the futures and hopes of an entire generation in the world's poorest countries. ONE also calls for debt cancellation, trade reform, and anti-corruption measures in a comprehensive package to help poor nations in Africa and around the world conquer AIDS and extreme poverty.
Outstanding Web Features:
The ONE Campaign's Web site features One Vote '08, which aims to make extreme poverty and global disease a center issue in the upcoming presidential election. The site also features videos from ONE supporters, a blog from ONE organizers throughout the country, photos, information on its issues and a page where members can send emails to their congressional representatives regarding legislation pertaining to the issues. In addition, the site enables users to share information about ONE, and provides links to local chapters.
