OneWorld United States
Mission:
To harness the democratic potential of the Internet to promote human rights and sustainable development.
Background:
Launched in 2000, OneWorld United States was a joint venture of the Benton Foundation and OneWorld International (OWI) until 2005. One of OWI's eleven regional and country centers, it publishes American and international perspectives on global issues gathered from its partner organizations and news services worldwide. OneWorld United States is supported by contributions from individuals, partner organizations, and U.S.-based donor institutions, including the Ford and MacArthur foundations, the Omidyar Network, and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund.
Outstanding Web Feature:
The OneWorld United States Web site features country and topic guides to the news, and an advanced search tool that allows users to combine criteria to explore either current or archived news. In addition, the site provides information about existing OneWorld centers, current campaigns, and internships, as well as action alerts and free membership and subscriptions to OneWorld's daily headlines, weekly news digest, and Perspectives newsletter.
