Quest
Mission:
To utilize media platforms, educational resources, and partnerships to explore the stories and people behind Bay Area science, nature, and environmental issues, and to illustrate how their work is changing the world.
Background:
Launched in February 2007, QUEST is a multimedia initiative of KQED Public Broadcasting. In addition to the Web site, QUEST produces a weekly, half-hour HD television program, weekly radio segments, and unique education guides. Serving an area spanning Mendocino to Monterey and Sacramento to Santa Clara, QUEST focuses on astronomy, biology, chemistry, engineering, environment, geology, health, physics, and weather.
Outstanding Web Features:
QUEST's home page features an interactive map created with Global Positioning Satellite technology to "geotag" locations and images where QUEST segments were filmed and recorded. In addition to podcasts of radio and television interviews, the site provides an explorations section that offers information about nature hikes and walks. The QUEST science blog features daily contributions from scientists, experts, teachers, and students, while the TV/radio page provides links to television and radio stories. The site also features an education page that offers free standards-based resources for teachers.
