SheSource.org

Mission:
To be an online resource for journalists that is dedicated to closing the gender gap in news media, and to provide journalists with a database of women who are distinguished experts in their fields and experienced spokespeople.

Background:
The cornerstone of an initiative by the Women's Funding Network, the White House Project, and Fenton Communications, SheSource.org was launched in October 2005 to foster representative public discourse by increasing the number of women reflected in the news media as policy shapers and voices of authority on critical issues.

Web Site:
Journalists can find women experts via the search tool on the SheSource.org homepage, using the pull-down menu of categories, such as philanthropy, education, and health care. A list of women who fit the search criteria will be displayed with their title, organization, and links to their biographies, which include media experience, articles and other publications, expertise, and contact information. Sample experts include Joan Claybrook, president, Public Citizen (environment, health care, consumer issues); Elizabeth Warren, Leo Gottlieb Professor of Law, Harvard Law School (economy/budget); and Kavita N. Ramdas, president and CEO, Global Fund for Women (international issues, philanthropy). The homepage also highlights an Expert of the Week and Breaking News, which notes women with backgrounds relevant to the day's top stories who are available for interviews. Journalists can sign up to receive updates on the availability of experts qualified to comment on current news topics.
