Stand Up To Cancer
Mission:
To accelerate groundbreaking cancer research that helps deliver new therapies to patients quickly and saves lives.
Background:
Established in 2008 by the Entertainment Industry Foundation, Stand Up To Cancer works within the entertainment industry to create awareness and build public support for efforts to help end cancer. The organization partners with the American Association for Cancer Research to award Innovative Research Grants to early-career scientists with novel ideas that have strong potential to impact patient care — projects that are high-risk but also high-impact and might not receive funding through traditional channels.
Outstanding Web Features:
Registered users can get involved in the movement to end cancer by "launching a star" to recognize or honor an individual diagnosed with cancer, create a fundraising team, connect with others in SU2C forums, and/or send an e-card. The site also features additional information about the organization's funding model, SU2C magazine content, videos, a photo gallery, a blog that tracks cancer research news and updates, and a list of other nonprofits working to end cancer.
